Unassumingly nestled in a corner of Mountain Laurel Plaza on Stony Hill, Bora Restaurant is a Bethel gem—where thoughtfully crafted cocktails flow and the experience begins before you’re even seated.

Anything but a bore—from drink to food to décor—Bora offers a blend of fine dining and casual comfort. Its luxuriant scenery, flavors, and scents engage the senses from the moment you arrive.

Dernard Kralani Jr., Operations Manager, speaks with palpable pride about Bora’s journey over the past three and a half years.“Consistency is key,” he tells me, as I look out at a packed parking lot at 68 Stony Hill Road.

Since opening in November 2022, Bora has worked diligently to ensure both the food and service are consistently on point. Even with weekly specials and multiple menu updates throughout the year, maintaining quality and availability remains a top priority. The guest experience is clearly at the center of it all—from thoughtfully curated seasonal décor to the final garnish on a craft cocktail.

When asked how he maintains such a high standard, Dernard describes a full-circle approach that begins with his team.“I’ll train the right person—even if they’re young or inexperienced—if they’re willing to do the hard work.”

He believes in giving opportunities to those who might otherwise be overlooked and emphasizes internal promotion. Alongside General Manager Drin Brahimaj, Dernard leads a team of more than 30 employees with a fair and flexible approach.

“I truly believe that when your staff is happy, it translates directly to the guest experience. I’m very proud of that.”

A Bronx native now living in North Salem, NY, Dernard oversees not only Bora Restaurant, but also its sister locations: Barnwood Grill (Newtown, CT and Yorktown Heights, NY) and Barnwood Tavern (Danbury, CT).His roots in the food industry began early, helping at his family’s beloved Bethel breakfast spot, Bagel Crossing. He later joined Barnwood Grill in Newtown as a busser, working alongside Bora’s now Executive Chef, Joel Cuji.

Their fruit-forward cocktail menu continues to evolve, with the Pear-Basil Martini standing out as a crowd favorite among both new and returning guests.Bora Restaurant is open six days a week (closed Mondays) and offers brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
